H-holy, sweet goddamn!

Oh my God! The future is now, people! Someone has invented a headset so gamers can play using just their minds! Moreover, it was invented in this country! Yes, it was invented in Australia!
Seriously, just read the below article, the concept alone is enough to send me into spasms of joy, and I’m still trying to convey to my coworkers how groundbreaking and totally made of awesome the mere idea of playing games with my mind, leaving my hands free to rove about of their own accord. The possibilities are endless!
Technological developments like this make me happy to be alive!

It’s true, my fine and fancy friends. I am currently completely bereft of fruit of any description, and also… The Internet!
I have the internet at work, but I feel that it is probably unwise to blog here (given my stance on certain controversial subjects, i.e: I find them hilarious!) but there is no internet at my new apartment in Gosford. I will admit that the situation is driving me mad, but I’m trying to be strong, laughter through the tears and what-not.
So, for anyone who may be curious, I’m not dead, merely stagnating in a life without internet and all the joy the internet represents in my life (eg: It has always been one of the only reasons I bother to go home) I am hoping to have the situation rectified in about 2 or 3 months.

Most awesome marraige proposal EVER!

My French teacher once told me that I had no sense of romance. Well, I say that anyone who can’t find this story adorably romantic (in a sweet nerdy kind of way) mustn’t have a heart (figuratively)
I can’t think of anything more romantic than getting proposed to via a Nintendo DS video game. Yes, awesomeness, thy name is Bernie Peng!

Some people are so white
Posted in Moronic, general chit-chat with tags morons, white people on April 17, 2008 by syrupandbluebear
Last night I was getting on the bus underneath Star City, so naturally the whole area is packed full of jostling elderly people, trying to push their way to the front of the line to get the best seats, most of these elderly people were Asian. That’s pretty normal for Star City at 9:45pm on a Wednesday night.
What’s not particularly normal is that there were some young white people amidst the thronging masses of greying, wrinkly gimmers. Well, when I say “young” I mean “mid thirties”, which is older than me, but who’s counting? Specifically it was two women and a man. They did not appear to be drunk.
These people have manhandled and pushed their way to the front of the line with sheer brute force, whilst I hung at the back of the line. I’ve caught this bus too many times to bother pushing to the front, only to receive an elbow to the groin because I accidentally nudged the wrong little old lady. These people clearly had no idea what they were in for.
The man in the group then turns around to the elderly Asian man behind him (who had given him a good whack with his walking stick, much to my amusement) and upon seeing this enfeebled old guy has said, in all seriousness mind you, he actually said: “Konnichiwa, are-you-Japanese?” … I was flabberghasted! Where the hell did that come from? He was speaking slowly and with a raised voice, as if adressing someone of diminished mental capacity who was also hard of hearing. But of course, it gets better. The old man pushes past him muttering darkly in Mandarin, so this guy turns to the bus driver, who is also Asian and says “Konnichiwa, you’re-Japanese, aren’t-you?”… What is this madness? My mouth is agape with shock and awe that this guy can manage to offend two people individually in the space of 5 seconds.
One part of me wanted to point and proclaim loudly “That’s so racist!” another part of me wanted to launch a tirade at him in Japanese to see how he’d respond. I also wanted to know what he based these assumptions on. Neither of these people gave any indication that they might be Japanese, the old man was talking to a woman next to him (possibly his wife) in Mandarin before this guy randomly asked him that stupid question, and the bus driver had an Australian accent. Does he not realise that there are many Asian nationalities? Is he actually being racist or is he just a moron? I guess i’ll never know.
His two companion were very annoying. Each time this guy opened his mouth to say something idiotic these women would screech with preemptive laughter. They talked loudly on the bus so everyone could hear their various racist comments (they were actually beginning to be quite offensive, so i turned up my mp3 player and closed my eyes to avoid witnessing an uprising of angry old people) and when they got off the bus they actually tried get everyone up the front of the bus to high-five them as they got off. Even now, I’m trying to make sense of it, what leads people to be complete idiots in public and not be embarassed and ashamed of themselves? How small minded can some people be? I think I just have to accept that some people are just idiots who have no idea about the world.
Get it, got it, good!

There are 2 new Taeyang dolls listed on Valley Of The Dolls! I really, really want Seiran♥ I think his hair will be a bitch to deal with, but he’s so pretty! He looks a little bit like Lead, who was my first (and is currently my only) Taeyang, and he reminds me of a character from a movie I used to love.
I also love the Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley-Sohryu Pullips! The anime nerd in me squeals with delight every time I see them.
When I move next week I am going to have to restrain myself from going on an internet spending spree!
Fun for the whole family!

Have you heard about the “Incest Couple” story that’s sweeping the nation lately? No? Where have you been living, in an art-deco cave this side of Bradbury? Wether you’ve heard it or not, it’s absolutely hilarious! It’s become fodder for debate, is it wrong to sleep with your dad? Is it normal to get a raging boner for your daughter? I don’t have the answer to these questions, but I do enjoy listening to the arguments that ensue once they’re posed.
The general concencus, I’ve found, is that it’s terribly wrong and immoral to sleep with anyone closely related to you, and if you happen to have conceive because you couldn’t keep your pants on then that child will, naturally, be ridiculed untill they either kill themselves or their parents, or change their name and leave the country. This is what I’ve managed to glean from the comments left on Jenny Deaves’ written statement on the Sixty Minutes blog by the readers. Pure comedy gold! I haven’t read all the comments yet, but I really hope some fundies crawl out of the woodwork and lay some hilarious biggotry on the table.
Honestly, I find it a bit weird that this woman wanted to sleep with her own father, but I’m trying to keep something of an open mind about it. I mean, my dad is a bit of a looker, yes, he’s a total spunk, but although I will admit that my dad is adorable and handsome I don’t ever want to sleep with him. Sorry dad, but I like to believe that, despite my many shortcommings, I could still manage to find someone to sleep with who isn’t a blood relation. I think my odds are pretty good actually, there’s plenty of desperate men in this city who’ll take what they can get, and compared to the manky looking prostitues in Kings Cross I start to look like a pretty good catch (Well… I think I do!)
What about their child though? What about poor little Celeste? Not only has she been unfortunately named after Babar’s wife, but herfather is also her grandfather. As if that wasn’t enough for the poor kid to be dealing with, but now her silly parent’s have gone on national TV to make a statement about how they’re a father-daughter couple in a sexual relationship, and they’re in “wuv”! (i.e: “Love”) Ok, that was pretty sarcastic, and it may have undermined my previous statement about trying to keep an open mind, but it just boggles the mind that these adults have brought a child into the world who is going to have to suffer torment and ridicule for the rest of her life, and she’s not even in preschool yet!
All in all though, it’s a funny story that’s really gotten people talking about a hilarious subject. Incest: It’s fun for the whole family!

I found this really sweet news article about the worlds tallest man on the Sydney Morning Herald’s website this morning which you can read here about how he got a big bike and a car donated to him.
It gives me the warm and fuzzies to find such a sweet article in the midst of all the dramatic news of the world.

This is just a quick one tonight (as it’s Wednesday and I want to go to sleep ASAP to forget about the horrors I’ve had to deal with in the last 12 hours) to express how much I love this clip. I love this film clip for Mika’s Happy Ending, it is a genius concept. Every time I watch this clip I am left exclaiming to myself or whoever will listen “It’s just like my dreams!” It’s incredible that it really is just like my dreams!
Embuggerance!
Posted in Books, Film, Nerd stuff with tags Discworld, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, Movies, Terry Prachett on March 18, 2008 by syrupandbluebear
Embuggerance is an amazing word, don’t you think? I’ve only discovered it this very night, whilst reading through the news articles of the day on the Sydney Morning Herald website. I stumbled upon this article here regarding Terry Pratchett’s recent diagnosis of early onset alzheimers. It would appear that I am one of the last people to have read about this, apparently it’s old news, however, I only found out all about this whole ordeal on Saturday and I was pretty shocked and saddened. I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett’s work, so I’m relieved to read that he is going to continue writing.
In another article on the same page I discovered that Warner Bros. intend to turn Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows into not one, but two movies! Genius! I doubt I will actually go and see either of them, as no movie could ever live up to the books in my humble opinion, but it seems a good idea to me. Especially from a financial point of view, why cram all that suspense and action in to one movie when you can charge the foolish cinema patrons twice to see something they could just read instead! Pure, unadulterated liquid-genius! I’d imagine that such forward thinking is what has kept Warner Bros. going all these years (PS: Please don’t sue me!) Luckily for the financial team behind the Harry Potter films so many people these days will proudly proclaim that they’d rather wait and see the movie than waste their precious time reading the books. It’s a sentiment that I completely fail to comprehend, and yet it is a popular view! Even when One tries to explain how much more detail there is in the books, and how the ambience of certain scenes is captured so perfectly by the use of specific words and adjectives, and how satisfying it is you use your own imagination to paint the scene and how no movie could ever live up to anything created in your own mind, I still recieve blank looks and my impassioned speech is met with statements like “Ohh, but the books are so long!” or “But reading is boring, and there’s no pictures”.
I find it so difficult to understand people who don’t like reading. When I was much younger I honestly believed that everyone loved books just as much as I did, and when other kids told me they hated reading I laughed because I thought they were being scarcastic. Although, thinking back on it now, literacy wasn’t really a popular concept with kids my age when I was in school, reading anything that you didn’t absolutely have to was the epitome of lame, but it’s cooler now I think.
